Desserts are not created equal. Some are light, some are filling. Some are crunchy, some are gooey. Some are overly sweet, some are infused with all sorts of other flavors (think cinnamon, peppermint, or even chili). And some will send your sweet tooth in heaven, while some will just bring heaven here on earth.
This dessert, which is a cookie bar made with graham cracker crumbs, is one example of a dessert that would make you see fireworks at the first bite. That’s how incredible its flavor and texture is.
Graham crackers, which were invented by a Presbyterian minister named Sylvester Graham in 1892 in New Jersey, are widely used for all sorts of desserts. In fact, there’s now a variation of this product–cracker crumbs, designed to make it easier for anyone to make graham cracker desserts like the one in the photo above.
To make this cookie bar, which is dubbed in the recipe as “magic cookie bars” in that they’re so magically delicious, you’ll need semi-sweet chocolate chips (preferably by Ghirardelli), butter or margarine, graham cracker crumbs, condensed milk, coconut flakes, and chopped nuts.
Be sure to follow the recommended baking temperature and time as indicated in the recipe so you’ll end up with cookie bars with perfect texture, crunchy on the outside and a bit chewy and gooey on the inside–exactly how a cookie bar should be.
Although this pastry is relatively easy, it’s possible to not get it the first time. Don’t feel bad. You’ll eventually master it after the second or third try. Just follow the recipe to the dot, from the ingredient portions to the step-by-step procedure.
