Finding tasty homemade treats to tempt your kids can be tricky. Food manufacturers use some clever techniques to target children and make their commercially made snacks highly desirable. This can mean that kids often want shop bought snacks that can contain high levels of sugar, salt and fat. However there are some delicious and quick treats you can make at home that kids will love. These Nutella Ice Cream Popsicles for example are great for summer, and are easy to make with just a few ingredients. They taste similar to Street’s Paddle Pops, which are popular in Australia and New Zealand. Because these Homemade Nutella Ice Cream Popsicles contain full milk, they provide a good source of calcium for children. The Nutella contains no artificial colours or flavours either so this is a healthy, wholesome snack. Remember though that Nutella contains hazelnuts and so these popsicles will not be suitable for those with nut allergies.
Nutella Ice Cream Popsicles
This receipt will make 6 popsicles. If you do not have special popsicle moulds, you can use small plastic cups and popsicle sticks.
- 1 Cup of Full Cream Milk
- 1/3 Cup of Nutella
Blend for the Nutella and milk until the mix is smooth and creamy. Pour immediately into clean moulds. Pop in the freezer for 5 minutes, until the mixture is just starting to firm up. Now you can push your popsicle sticks into the centre of each popsicle. Now return to the freezer until frozen.
To serve remove from the freezer, and leave to stand for in room temperature for a few minutes. You should be able to then remove the popsicle from the mould. If you have problems removing the popsicle, you could heat a knife gently in hot water and then run it around the outside of the mould. This should help to ease the popsicle free.
You can use almond milk or coconut milk in place of the full fat cream milk in this recipe.
