For some people, a grilled cheese sandwich is just cheese and bread, plain and simple–nothing more, nothing less. But if you’re a little more creative in the kitchen, you do know that this favorite snack can include more, a whole lot more, right?
Take this zillion dollar grilled cheese sandwich from Ritz Carlton Chicago. It costs $100 but it’s more than worth it with everything that you’ll find in this ultimate sandwich! In between the artisan country sourdough bread are thinly sliced Iberico ham, Wisconsin cheddar, tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, white truffle aioli, foie gras, sunny side up duck egg, and lobster mac.
Now if you’re not at all comfortable spending a hundred bucks on a sandwich no matter how delicious they say that it is, why don’t you try recreating your own at home? You might say you don’t have all those fancy ingredients that were just mentioned. There’s no need for that. You can try the simpler versions like the usual cheddar cheese in lieu of the Wisconsin cheddar cheese.
And try experimenting with various ingredients too. Instead of ham, try bacon. Instead of sunny side up duck egg, scrambled chicken egg might work just as well.
